Lifting with round steel chains

Round steel chains are subdivided into untested, tested and calibrated chains. Tested chains have been subjected to force situ-ated between the load-bearing capacity and the minimum breaking force. By applying the test force on the chain, it is ensured that the chain will neither be extended nor undergo rupture during its specified use. If the chain is loaded with a force above the test force during its use, it will be undergo plastic deformation which must contribute by at least 15% until reaching the breaking load (applies not for hardened chains). This is therefore an optical test measure for chain overload. Tested chains are suitable for load lifting. Calibrated chains are tested and fine-toleranced and will be suitable for being run over chain wheels.

Tested chains, for example those as per DIN 763 or DIN 766, are suitable for load lifting. Chains as per DIN 763, however, are only allowed for static suspension and may not be used as load-bearing means, slinging means or load-lifting means within the meaning of DIN 15003 in connection with cranes or lifting gear, and therefore neither for dynamic lifting operations of any kind.

Chains as per DIN 766 are approved for all type of lifting operations, including dynamic ones.

Chains as per DIN 5685 which were not subjected to load tests, however, may not be used as load-bearing means, slinging means or load-bearing means within the meaning of DIN 15003 in connection with cranes of lifting gear and therefore not for lifting operations of any kind. The chains are not load-tested within the meaning of the DIN 685-3. DIN 5685, however, provi-des in all 3 parts with the respective annexes calculative static loads. If these chains are subjected to static loads, for example for hanging up luminaries, flower pots and such, the sole responsibility will be with the user.

Tested chains can be supplied with a appropiate test certificate according to the EN 10204 3.1 B.

Our range of chains includes chains made of a large number of materials: Normal steel, alloyed steel, stainless steel, heat-resistant, non-magnetic, wear-resistant etc. and the surface colours natural black, bright metallic, hot galvanized, electro galvanized, blacoat, protecoat, plastic coated and bitumen coated.
