Notes on the use of round steel chains |
Below please find some general points regarding the use of round steel chains. These notes do not invalidate or replace the respective assembly, maintenance and/or operation instructions. Neither are the points exhaustive.
- Use round steel chains for lifting loads only if the chain pitch is t ≤ 3 d and the chains have been tested according to DIN 685. A manufacturer's test certificate should be available.
- No chemical impact (exception: chains made of suitable materials)
- Never do any welding on hardened chains/components
- Never do any welding on chains/components of quality classes 3 – 810
- Observe loss of working load if strut angles are used
- Observe loss of working load at temperatures < 0°C and > 100°C
- Do not heat chains of quality class 3 and higher to temperatures over 400°C
-
Do not heat chains grade 100 to temperatures over 200°C
- Do not expose chain links to bending stress
- Chains used for lifting loads should be inspected for deformation, cracks, notches and other damage in regular intervals. Damaged chains must not be used under any circumstances. The time interval between two inspections depends on the service conditions but should never be longer than 1 year
- Changes of surface cause changes of mechanical properties
- If chains run on wheels, they will only give proper service if the chains are calibrated on the wheels
