Chain wheels can be described by the following data:

- diameter of the chain (d)

- pitch of the chain (t)

- number of teeth (Z)

- pitch circle diameter (DT)

- outer diameter (D)

- width of the wheel (Bc)

- width of the hub (BN)

- diameter of the hub (DN)

The chain wheel is described by:

Z = Number of teeth
S = Ratio


For the practical application the second expression is negligible.

The error when applying the shortened formula will be less, the larger the pitch is in relation to the diameter and the more teeth the chain wheel has.
